Who We Are
Cotswold Polo Academy are a group of like minded, passionate International polo coaches and players focused on delivering first class instruction. Founded by International polo player Martin Ffrench Blake, Cotswold Polo Academy are committed to improving the riding skills of new members in a safe and fun environment. Cotswold Polo Academy coaches are highly experienced HPA and Pony Club accredited. Our aim is to encourage everyone who has ever considered playing polo. Regardless if you are new to riding or accomplished in all things equestrian, a warm welcome awaits.
Polo Lessons
Cotswold Polo Academy coaches are fully qualified and we offer a variety of options for individuals and groups regardless of riding and polo experience. All lessons are tailor made ensuring you receive the best coaching for your ability. Our ponies ( and coaches! ) are well schooled and will be selected on temperament and experience, we have the right coach and pony for the complete beginner to professional player.
Private Lessons
One to one coaching allows you to develop specific skills at your own pace. It is an essential starting point, enabling your coach to assess and create a unique programme specific to your learning and goals.
Lessons do vary, however riding and riding polo style, precision hitting, positional plays and tactics are an integral part of playing polo. How you progress is very much down to you and the time you have available. We actively encourage and motivate the novice rider throughout their Polo journey. Our aim at CPA is to have you playing instructional chukkas in no time at all. Senior coaches have a wealth of experience coaching and playing at an International level, they too welcome the challenge of developing the ambitious player looking to play competitive club polo and tournaments.
Group Lessons
Scheduled group lessons and training run weekly and you are most welcome to join us. We operate sessions for beginners to handicap players. It is a social environment and a great way to start playing as a team. Instructional Chukkas
Cotswold Polo Academy structures chukkas to your ability. Following your private lessons you may wish to take the next step and we are on hand to encourage and guide you. Beginner's instructional chukkas allow you to learn more about the game and its plays and tactics. Advanced chukkas will focus on complex plays, tactics and speed. You will play in a more competitive atmosphere alongside your coach and professionals. Advanced Chukkas are the final steps leading to match and tournament polo.
Junior Academy
Olivia Lamphee HPA level 3 and Pony Club accredited manages our thriving junior academy. She is dedicated to the progression of our junior players and finds nurturing up and coming talent extremely rewarding. She works closely with several independent schools and is part of the HPA Development Programme, escorting our rising stars to South Africa for specialist training. Olivia has taken children from their first experience on horseback right through to national and international competition. Weekly scheduled junior group lessons, chukkas and holiday Pony Activity Days are an integral part of our ethos of learning. We are proud of our young academicians and offer a fun and rewarding environment for them to progress.

Activities Time Table
10.30 am - meet and greet - gather at the clubhouse and get to know your teammates
10.45 - meet your pony
11.00 - enjoy a professional insight to stable management - including tacking, plaiting and turn out
11.30 - 12.30 - polo pony hack in and around the magnificent Cirencester Parkland
12.45 - 1.45 - Pony lunchtime, preparation of haynets
1.00 - 1.45 - Lunch time for junior academicians
2.00 - 3.00 - time for flatwork, introduction to XC jumping
3.00 - 3.45 - mounted games including: relays, stepping stones, four flag and lots more
3.45 - prize giving, plus completion certificate and rosette
£195 per child per day - including all equipment and pony
£100 per child with own pony
Own ponies are very welcome. Please bring a packed lunch and notify us of any allergies your child may have. It is impossible to predict the British weather, please bring sensible clothing including waterproofs. Novice riders are not only welcome they are positively encouraged! We wish to share our passion for all things equestrian with you.
